While he had questioned his birth certificate for years, Donald Trump had never actually met Barack Obama. That changed today when the two met for the first time at the White House.
Trump said the meeting, which was supposed to last 10 minutes, went for 90 and “could have gone longer.” During remarks afterwards Trump called Obama “a very good man.”
“Mr President, it was a great honor being with you and I look forward to being with you many, many more times,” said Trump. The president-elect also said he hoped to stay in contact with Obama after the inauguration “for counsel.”
For his part, Obama pledged that there would be a smooth transition from his administration to Trump’s over the next two months.
“My No. 1 priority in the next two months is to try to facilitate a transition that ensures our President-elect is successful,” said Obama.
Trump will be inaugurated on January 20, 2017.
