The bizarro world of this election continues with news that Megyn Kelly will have an “exclusive” hour-long interview with Donald Trump right in the middle of the all important May sweeps.

Yes, Megyn Kelly will interview the candidate who once said about her:

“Certainly, I don’t have a lot of respect for Megyn Kelly. She’s a lightweight and y’know, she came out there reading her little script and trying to be tough and be sharp. And when you meet her you realize she’s not very tough and she’s not very sharp. She gets out there and she starts asking me all sorts of ridiculous questions, and you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her … wherever.”

The candidate who has tweeted some of the most ferocious attacks on a reporter in history:

Things that make you go hmmmm.

The “feud” between Kelly and Trump started during the first Republican presidential debate last summer when Kelly quoted to Trump various remarks he’s made on social media. “You’ve called women you don’t like ‘fat pigs,’ ‘dogs,’ ‘slobs’ and ‘disgusting animals,’” said Kelly.

Trump hated the question and launched into months of angry tweets against Kelly and then he backed out of a GOP debate that she moderated.

But hidden in all of this was the reality of the news business.

The Kelly/Trump ongoing “fight” had boosted Kelly’s prime-time ratings 41 percent. With it, Trump enjoyed unprecedented coverage that sucked all of the oxygen out of the air for the other GOP candidates.

Now it’s time for May sweeps. One of the most critical periods for television news of the year. The ratings in May help set the advertising rates for the entire summer.

So here comes the Frost/Nixon.. wait.. Kelly/Trump “exclusive” interview.

The circus just keeps going.
