Phil Mickelson became $9 million richer today after defeating Tiger Woods 1-up in 22 holes in Capital One’s The Match—a winner-take-all, match-play event held at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas.

Woods missed a birdie putt from seven feet out on the fourth overtime hole, while Mickelson made his from four feet away to clinch the victory.

Additionally, Mickelson won three side bets or “challenges” on the day for $600,000, while Woods won one challenge for $200,000. That money will be paid directly by Woods and Mickelson to a charity of the other’s choice.

Woods had been favored favored -200 at the Westgate – to prevail, but Mickelson is now relishing the opportunity to hold some bragging rights.

Woods and Mickelson are longtime rivals who spent much of the late 1990s and early-to-mid 2000s as the two best golfers in the world.

Those who weren’t planning to pay $19.99 for “The Match” got a break when Turner executives decided, at the last minute, to give away the stream for free.

The decision came after a technical issue with the purchasing mechanism on Bleacher Report Live made it hard for fans to purchase the event.

“We experienced a technical issue on Bleacher Report Live that impacted user access to ‘The Match,'” Turner spokesman Nate Smeltz said. “We took a number of steps to resolve the matter with our main priority being to deliver the content to those who purchased the event.”
