As he prepares to walk off into the presidential sunset, President Obama’s job approval numbers are at the highest they’ve been since his second inauguration.
Fifty-one percent of Americans now approve of the job Obama is doing as president, compared to 46 percent who disapprove, according to a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll.
The last time more than half of the country supported him was in January 2013, just after he had defeated Mitt Romney for a second term.
The partisan opinion of Obama continues, with eighty-one percent of Republicans disapproving the way he’s handling the job, while eighty-eight percent of Democrats approve.
What’s especially impressive is that Obama now has a 54 percent approval rating with independents, who must choose between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton this fall.
