Rep. Chaka Fattah is disgracing the American people right up until the moment he enters a federal prison.
Fattah, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, was found guilty yesterday of bribery, racketeering, money laundering, bank fraud, mail and wire fraud, and filing false statements as part of a years-long criminal scheme.
He stole cash from both the government and nonprofits to pay off an illegal $1 million campaign loan. And that was just the tip of the very tall iceberg.
He’s clearly the worst of the worst of politicians.
Yet, today, when he submitted his resignation letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan, he requested that he remain on the public payroll until his sentencing in October.
Seriously?
A man guilty of public corruption wants to keep receiving public money until he walks into prison? Shouldn’t he be required to start paying back his constituents for his theft?
His son, Chaka Fattah Jr., is already serving five years in prison on bank and tax fraud charges. Fattah faces up to twenty years.
The House should expel him immediately and get him off the tax payer dime. What a disgrace.
