The mass shooter and domestic terrorist Omar Mateen hated gays. The American-born Mateen targeted a gay club in Orlando for a reason. He cowardly wrapped himself around a religion to give it justification but let’s call this like it is: This was a hate crime first and foremost.

He was a lone wolf who, like Timothy McVeigh before him, let anger build up to the point of hatred. Mateen used a machine gun, McVeigh used a homemade bomb.
McVeigh’s action killed 168 people, including many children who were in a daycare. All because he hated the federal government.
Neither McVeigh or Mateen could have been easily identified or stopped.
There will be plenty of chest thumping about this tragic shooting in an election year, but Mateen, just like McVeigh, was just another cowardly nut.
