As Democrats quickly unite around their presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton, the list of Republicans and conservatives who say they will not vote for Donald Trump continues to grow.
Richard Armitage, the deputy secretary of state under George W. Bush, and the assistant secretary of defense under Ronald Reagan, says he will vote for Hillary Clinton in November.
“If Donald Trump is the nominee, I would vote for Hillary Clinton,” said Armitage. “He doesn’t appear to be to be a Republican, he doesn’t appear to want to learn about issues. So I’m going to vote for Mrs. Clinton.”
Armitage is the highest ranking former GOP national security official to openly support Clinton over Trump.
Trump has said Bush should have been impeached for his decision to go to war in Iraq. The former president, and his father, the last two Republican presidents, have declined to back Trump.
The 2012 Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, has been leading the never-Trump movement.
Also today, another member of congress, Rep. Fred Upton, who is the senior member of Michigan’s GOP delegation, says he is not planning to endorse Trump either.
Ohio Governor John Kasich said today that he may skip the GOP convention being held in his state next month. As for Trump, ” I’m not making any final decision yet, but at this point I just can’t do it.”
Last week, Sen. Mark Kirk announced he will not vote for Trump or Clinton. Kirk said he found Trump’s remarks about Indiana-born federal judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is overseeing a lawsuit against Trump University, “dead wrong” and “un-American.”
Former North Dakota Senator Larry Pressler, a lifelong Republican, said over the weekend, “I can’t believe I’m endorsing Hillary Clinton for president, but I am.”
In Iowa, State Sen. David Johnson, a lifelong Republican, changed his voter registration to “no party.”
Michael Reagan, conservative son of the former president, says he will not back Trump.
Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt says delegates must rethink their vote to make Trump the nominee at the upcoming GOP convention.
In addition, the billionaire Republican Koch brothers say they will not support Trump.
