Donald Trump, the billionaire reality TV host from New York City, is officially the nominee of the Republican Party.

It is quite a moment for the man who just sixteen years ago was a registered independent and on the verge of running for the Reform Party nomination. The man who also has donated tens of thousands of dollars to Democrats, including the Clinton’s.

Trump’s nomination in 2016 represents the total disgust of a majority of registered Republicans who feel blowing up the establishment, and the Bush’s and Romney’s with it, is worth the risk heading into November.

Republicans have either just nominated a brilliant non-politician to be the top politician in America, or they have committed historical suicide that will lead to an embarrassing defeat.

What of special note does Donald Trump bring to the presidential campaign?

  • Real Estate, gambling and business expertise.
  • Great salesmanship, which could come in handy on the world stage.
  • An ability to compromise to get things done. He is a good negotiator.
  • Can stand up to lobbyists and special interests like the Koch brothers.
  • Understands the tax code having managed billions of his own wealth.
  • Will get tougher on trade deals, gone are the days of Republicans supporting NAFTA.
  • Has a Ron Paul philosophy of the military. Opposed the Iraq war and wanted President Bush impeached for it.
  • Confidence and a power personality.
  • Could end the dominance of the neo-conservatives and social conservatives in the Republican Party.

One thing is certain, Trump is an interesting man. Say what you want about him, he is the first presidential candidate in our lifetime who truly beats to his own drummer.

Whether he is the Pied Piper for Republicans remains the unanswered question.
