Millennial voters in this election have made it clear that as long as there is someone else on the ballot with Donald Trump, they’ll go with that person and not him.
A new McClatchy/Marist poll shows that among voters under 30:
- Hillary Clinton leads with 41%
- Gary Johnson has 23%
- Jill Stein has 16%
- Donald Trump is in single digits with 9%
That is a Hillary Clinton lead over Trump among young voters of 32 percent. He’s running a distant fourth behind Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson and Green Party nominee Jill Stein.
Truly startling numbers, especially if you’re old enough to remember the days when Ronald Reagan carried the 18-29 vote by 61 percent.
In 2012, Mitt Romney won 36 percent of the 18-29 vote, and in 2008, McCain had 32 percent.
What’s worse for Trump is that 82 percent of millennials have an “unfavorable” view of him. Only 13 percent view him favorably.
Millennials — people between the ages of 18-35 — are now as large of a political force as Baby Boomers. Both generations are roughly 31 percent of the overall electorate.
Among all voters, the new poll finds Clinton leading Trump 45 percent to 31 percent. Johnson has 10 percent, and Stein 6 percent.
