It’s political terrorism pure and simple.

Someone early this morning threw a Molotov cocktail through the front window of Orange County, North Carolina’s GOP headquarters, setting campaign signs, supplies and furniture on fire. A swastika and “Nazi Republicans get out of town or else” were spray painted on the side of an adjacent building.

nc-gop-fire-1No one was hurt, but someone easily could have. With just three weeks to go before the election, there could have been a local volunteer or two preparing signs and/or door hangers for Sunday morning.

The guilty party(s) need to be captured, charged and tossed in jail. The minute we look the other way when people start getting beat up at campaign events, or when journalists start getting death threats while covering rallies, or a party headquarters gets set on fire we all risk losing our freedoms.

The North Carolina GOP, thanking both presidential candidates, offers a moment of civility at the end of one of the most divisive campaigns in our history.

Both parties need to encourage this type of behavior end now before someone truly gets hurt.
