Ohio Gov. John Kasich voted early and wrote in the name of the 2008 Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain.
“Donald Trump is a man I cannot and should not support,” said Kasich earlier this month. “It has been an accumulation of his words and actions that many have been warning about. I will not vote for a nominee who has behaved in a manner that reflects so poorly on our country. Our country deserves better.”
Despite not having the backing of Kasich or Sen. Rob Portman, or the editorial backing of both the Columbus Dispatch and Cincinnati Enquirer, it appears likely — according to the combined averages of recent polls — that Trump will carry Ohio next Tuesday.
No Republican has ever been elected president without winning Ohio. The state has picked the correct presidential winner in every election since 1964.
