Just days after 9/11, I interviewed Sen. John McCain and we briefly discussed how the sport of baseball was helping America get back on its feet.

In fact, many credit the World Series between the New York Yankees and the Arizona Diamondbacks for helping Americans rebuild in the wake of unspeakable grief and destruction.

The night before our interview, McCain, and his wife Cindy, had attended the first Dbacks home game at Bank One Ballpark since the terrorist attack had happened.

The Dbacks won, and McCain joked that team owner Jerry Colangelo had invited him back for more games as good luck.

Last night, fans at Chase Field stood as McCain was mentioned and honored.
