King James made a statement in Texas tonight, donning a Beto O’Rourke hat ahead of his team’s matchup with the San Antonio Spurs.
In a photo shared by James’ team on Saturday evening, the player could be seen wearing a white hat, reading: “Beto for Senate.”
The show of support for O’Rourke arrives as the Texas Democrat continues to draw national attention as he seeks to unseat incumbent Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in the Texas Senate race.
This is not the first time the athlete has offered the Democrat public support, however.
In late August, the NBA star praised O’Rourke for a video featuring the political candidate defending defense of NFL players who kneel during the national anthem.
A Must Watch!!! ?????‼️ Salute @BetoORourke for the candid thoughtful words! https://t.co/E1YrbqGciZ

In the 4-minute video, O’Rourke said he “can think of nothing more American” than the protests, which he said were meant to bring attention to African-Americans who are “being killed at a frightening level right now, including by members of law enforcement, without accountability and without justice.”
At the time, James called the video a “must watch” and saluted the Democrat for his “for the candid thoughtful words.”
James’ political statement on Saturday also arrives months after Showtime announced it would be teaming up with the athlete to produce a documentary series on the role of athletes in America’s current cultural climate.
The series, titled “Shut Up and Dribble,” will take “a powerful inside look at the changing role of athletes in our fraught cultural and political environment,” the Los Angeles Times reported.
The title is a reference to a comment Fox News host Laura Ingraham made earlier this year, who responded to political statements from James by telling him to “shut up and dribble.”
