The Green Party candidate for the U.S. Senate in Arizona dropped out and endorsed Democratic nominee Kyrsten Sinema last week, but that didn’t stop thousands of people from voting for her, allowing GOP candidate Martha McSally to take the lead.
Knowing it would be close, the Sinema campaign convinced Green Party candidate Angela Green to endorse the Democrat last week.
However, with 99 percent of the precincts reporting, Sinema was trailing McSally by .08 percent, or around 14,500 votes, while Green was receiving over 38,000.
There are a scattering of remaining votes to be counted from Maricopa, Apache and Pima counties.
McSally or Sinema will be the first woman elected to the senate from Arizona, and replace retiring GOP Sen. Jeff Flake in January.
