The first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers 4 hit today, immediately sparking an internet freak-out and a frenzy of analysis and speculation.

The trailer arrived one week after the one-year anniversary of Avengers: Infinity War’s first trailer — causing some fans to question whether we’d even get a trailer as that date came and went.

And finally, we have a name.

Avengers: Endgame.

Watch here:

The dark trailer opens with Iron Man in space, in a ship he presumably found (and/or cobbled together) while on Titan, waxing poetic about Infinity War’s devastating Snappening in a recording meant for fiance Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow).

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) seems like a beaten man who’s accepted his fate.

“Part of the journey is the end,” he says.

“Thanos did exactly what he said he was going to do,” Black Widow says. “He wiped out 50 percent of all living creatures.”

“We lost, all of us,” Captain America says. “We lost friends, we lost family, we lost a part of ourselves. This is the fight of our lives.”

The trailer features a lot of  Cap, but more importantly we get our first look at Hawkeye/Ronin in years.

Notably absent are giant fight scenes or Captain Marvel, the photon-wielding space commander who is expected to make her Avengers debut in Avengers: Endgame and help save the day (Captain Marvel is getting her own movie, but that will be set in the 90s before the events of Endgame and Infinity War).

Directed by the Russo brothers Avengers: Endgame will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes come back together (and back from the dust) to fight Thanos once again and, as the movie’s title implies, finish the story that began in Infinity War and the fate of the Avengers.

The film will mark the culmination of 11 years of Marvel moviemaking, and portends to be the end for some of Marvel’s flagship actors, including Chris Evans.

Avengers: Endgame is scheduled to open in theaters on April 26, 2019.
