One Ohio GOP lawmaker has stirred anger for a Facebook post today in which she blamed mass shootings on “drag queen advocates,” “homosexual marriage,” open borders and even former Obama.
In the post, Ohio Rep. Candice Keller complained about liberals playing the “blame game” after every shooting and asked why not place the blame where it belongs.
The Republican lives in Middletown, about 30 miles south of Dayton, where a gunman killed nine people early Sunday.
Keller, in the post, placed the blame for mass shootings on “the breakdown of the traditional American family(thank you, transgender, homosexual marriage, and drag queen advocates); fatherlessness, a subject no one discusses or believes is relevant; the ignoring of violent video games; the relaxing of laws against criminals(open borders); the acceptance of recreational marijuana; failed school policies(hello, parents who defend misbehaving students): disrespect to law enforcement(thank you, Obama).”
The post went on to blame others, including the Democrats in Congress, and other lawmakers who don’t value the Second Amendment.
Keller told the Dayton Daily News she posted something to her private, personal Facebook page.
The posting has been removed, but screen grabs of the post were widely circulated on social media.
Keller is running for the Ohio Senate in Butler County in 2020.
She’s made a reputation for controversial statements.
She’s the executive director of a Christian pregnancy resource center and made headlines for comparing Planned Parenthood to Nazis.
She also spoke on a white power advocate’s radio show.
In March 2018, she made national news with her remarks about teens who survived the Parkland shooting to become advocates for gun control.
At a gun rights rally, Keller said a 15-year-old shooting survivor who spoke about gun control on national television “would just as soon be eating Doritos and playing video games.”
In 2017, Keller took to Facebook to criticize efforts to remove Confederate monuments.
Keller is also co-sponsoring a bill with state Rep. Niraj Antani, R-Miamisburg, to force cities and school districts to cooperate with federal immigration authorities or risk losing homeland security funds or local government funds.
Life in the Trump Era.
I have no doubt that most of the people who voted for Trump do not think of themselves as bigoted and xenophobic, but rather were more interested in jobs and economy.
But the fact remains that the most truly xenophobic and homophobic people, the white nationalists, the white supremacists, the “Proud Boys” and identitarians …. were all 100% solidly behind Trump. These were the “deplorables” Trump’s opponent spoke of. And with Trump’s election, they feel validated and empowered. And Ms. Keller seems to be a part of that.
