Lucifer star Tom Ellis got a little emotional today in sharing his thoughts about a show that brought hundreds of people together for a fan convention in Los Angeles.
During his appearance at the Lucifer Convention, Ellis paused as he thought ahead to the filming of the shows final scene.
“I can categorically say that I will never have another experience like this,” said Ellis. “When they call cut on the last day, it’s going to be a lot to take in.”
Writers are busy putting the finishing touches on the fifth season, which will go into production this fall.
Netflix has not announced when the 16 episodes will be released next year.
Ellis also pointed out that it took the shows cancellation by FOX for everyone to realize just how popular it was.
“These days there is so much TV, so much content out there,” said Tom. “To be on a show that gets noticed, that people know about, that just seems like a massive achievement these days. You guys don’t know about all of this but we’ve been up against it quite a lot. We’re like the bastard child. We wouldn’t have known how popular the show was until we got canceled. That was the crazy thing about it. We didn’t know that there was all that love out there.”
It took Lucifans about 24 hours to generate a million tweets in support of the show following FOX’s decision to cancel it.
A new book about that effort on social media, Lucifer Rises, is set to be released later this fall.
Ellis also recalled the early boycott of the show called for by religious groups.
“Doing a show called Lucifer there was inevitably going to be some kind of backlash,” said Tom. “There was quite famously an online petition by ‘one million moms’ which is a pretty bold name considering there’s three of them. They did this online petition to get the show banned, and they hadn’t even seen it. To me that says a lot more about them than it does about the show.”
The petition ended up around 38K signatures, far less than a million.
One fan asked Tom if Lucifer had a definitive power, like other DC comic characters.
“I think his superpower is his liver,” said Tom about Lucifer’s notorious drinking habit.
Another fan asked about Tom’s eyeliner on the show, saying it was “always on point.”
“We’ve moved up to Chanel,” answered Tom to a laughing audience. “There was a point in season two where I was like ‘that’s alright, I’ll do it!’ I would show up on set and look like Cleopatra.”
One fan asked if Lucifer asked Tom what he truly desired, what would be his answer.
“Honestly, right now what I desire is some kindhearted people running the world,” said Ellis, getting serious for a moment. “My biggest concern right now is about my three children and their future because we recognized quite a few years ago that we’re ruining this planet. And a lot of countries around the world are pulling together to try to help that situation. But it doesn’t work if the big boys aren’t there. And at the moment, there’s a few people in this world ruining it for everyone else. By literally ruining the world. My desire is those people go and some responsible fucking adults take over.”

Tom also discussed some of the ad libbed lines that have made it onto the show, including one about Donald Trump.
Episode 8, “Trip to Stabby Town,” witnessed Lucifer (Tom Ellis) in a session with his therapist Linda (Rachael Harris) who’s asking Satan a series of questions about hell and its occupants.
“How did you actually torture Hitler in Hell?” Linda asks. “I mean, is his cell next to Idi Amin’s? Or Mussolini’s? Or is there kind of a tyrant wing in Hell?”
Lucifer, initially reluctant to reply, eventually indulges Linda.
“So, we can, You know, talk about Caligula, Stalin, Trump. I mean, I know he’s not dead, but he’s definitely going,” Lucifer says of 45th president.
It was an ad lib that Ellis still can’t believe actually aired.
“Suggesting that Donald Trump isn’t dead yet, but he’s definitely going to Hell, I threw that in thinking no one’s going to let this on FOX, and it made it,” he said chuckling. “It’s moments like that, lines that have been improvised and they make it on to screen, that’s when I feel a real sense of achievement.”

Tom also announced it is not out of the question that he would do a Lucifer album, but that the effort faced “several legalities.”
But he hinted there are more musical numbers to come.
“There is quite likely to be some more material to put on there after this season,” he said. “It might not just be Lucifer’s songs, because we may have some other characters singing.”
That’s exactly what D.B. Woodside alluded to at the convention yesterday.

For those curious, there were plenty of drinks available at the Hyatt in LA during the Lucifer convention:
Earlier in the day, Tom and his costar Kevin Alejandro joked about the now famous dance number at the beginning of season four.
Apparently they filmed a scene where Kevin’s body would come back crashing to the floor at the end of the number, after Lucifer had tossed him up in the air.
“We did a take where out of nowhere Kevin just dropped from the sky,” Tom said to a laughing audience. “It was just a bit much apparently.”
Fans who attended the convention tweeted out some of their favorite moments:
I definitely love Tom Ellis!
That’s it.

Not sure how old you are Marion but I have seen many years in this earth and I hopped on a plane from Australia to LA just to meet this amazing man and the rest of the cast of the show. It was the most exciting weekend and Tom is an absolute amazing, kind, friendly, respectful, funny man and I had the best weekend. Am now looking at planning to attend another convention. Discussing the show and the cast, you can tell Tom and the others adore each other. This cast has an incredibly strong bond that will outlast the show. He did get quite emotional when the end of filming was mentioned. He is an amazing actor and you are correct, that man can say anything with his expressions.
Couldn’t have said it better myself, Marion!
I don’t ever watch T.V., but, my daughter told me “you’ll love it, just try it”. She was right!! I have plowed through the seasons over and over and they are all just lovely!! Now I am devouring everything I can read!! Tom Ellis and the rest of the gang really make this show work, I can’t imagine not ever having found this! Two thumbs up to all involved in this lovely show!!
Had no idea that eyeliner could look so good on a guy. Tom Ellis suits it perfectly.
