Fox News’ Chris Wallace criticized Trump defenders today, saying that their spin on the whistleblower complaint is “deeply misleading” to the public.

President Trump alleged without evidence today that the whistleblower obtained their “second-hand information” from a “leaker” or “partisan operative.”

He has also referred to the whistleblower as a “political hack.”

“I’m not saying therefore there’s a hot, solid case and the president should be impeached,” said Wallace. “I’m not saying that, but what is clear from reading the complaint is that it is a serious allegation. A lot has been proven to be born out already.”

“The whistleblower lays out a blueprint for talking to various officials in the White House, various officials in the State Department. And to dismiss this as a political hack, it seems to me to be an effort by the president’s defenders to make nothing out of something. And there is something here.”

The whistle-blower has been identified as a male CIA operative detailed to the White House.

The person is an expert on Ukraine.

Both the name of the person and the person’s source are a mystery that Trump and numerous news outlets are speedily attempting to unravel.

Trump told U.S. diplomats Thursday he suspected the whistle-blower’s source was a spy within his government.

Former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL), one of three long-shot GOP candidates challenging Trump in 2020, argued today that it’s time for Republicans to have a “gut-check” following Democrats’ launch of a formal impeachment inquiry this week.

“All Donald Trump cares about is Donald Trump,” Walsh, a former one-term Republican congressman and conservative talk radio host, said during an interview with CNN’s Brianna Keilar. “And this [Trump] phone call, what we learned this week makes it clear.”

Walsh accused Trump of “giving his middle finger to the American people” by pushing Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, a top political rival, noting that interference in U.S. elections by foreign governments has been a major concern following Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
