Jane Wilson, one of the key pioneers in the Lucifer fandom, lost her battle with cancer on July 18. She was 63.

Wilson loved Lucifer, and along with her friend Gail Crawford, helped establish the first social media accounts to support the show.

Crawford, under the @Lucifansgroup1 handle, announced the news about Wilson earlier today:

I just wanted to let you all know that my co-Admin, and beloved friend, Jane Wilson, died on July 18th after losing her battle with cancer. I’m devastated. If anyone would like to help me send flowers to her husband, please let me know. She was a LuciFan since Day 1. #Lucifer

It has been a difficult month for Crawford, knowing her friend was in hospice care, but keeping it private at Wilson’s request.

Their collaboration actually predated Lucifer’s premiere on Fox in 2016.

“Jane and I helped run a group called Dominion Family,” said Crawford. “That group was a collective who worked to help that show trend. We were very successful, but we worked directly with the showrunners and Jane and I learned a lot.”

When they started watching Lucifer, Crawford said they noticed fans were tweeting, but using a lot of random tags.

“We made the account to sort of give the Fandom a landing page for trending,” she said. “Our entire goal was trending in Season 1. After that, we sort of morphed into a fan page, with trending as a part of what we do. But we never felt it was about us. The Fandom did this. We just pointed the directions and sometimes reigned in the crazier impulses.”

For the past four years, Wilson had mainly handled the Facebook page LuciFans, while Crawford concentrated on Twitter.

“If you ever wondered where the term Lucifan came from it was from @lucifansgroup1 and Jane,” wrote @Sanoiro. “They defined the Lucifer fandom, gave it life and fighting spirit for when the Campaign of 2018 was needed to #SaveLucifer.”

Lucifer himself Tom Ellis tweeted: ‘I’m so sorry Gail. Jane was always so supportive and kind. The way she carried herself and cared for others is emblematic of a true #lucifan and she will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathies to you and her family. Much love.”

Lucifer star Lesley-Ann Brandt wrote: ‘On my son’s birthday, sending my sincere condolences to Jane’s family and friends. Rest in peace.’

Wilson’s final tweet back in March was actually a Happy Birthday greeting to William Shatner, who had backed the #SaveLucifer campaign in 2018.

“She loved him,” said Crawford.

Jane Wilson was born November 12, 1956, in Charleston, West Virginia.

She was a graduate of Marshall University with a BA degree.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jack R. Wilson Jr.; three sisters, Darla, Denise and Donna; two brothers, Jim and Dana; several nieces, nephews and her beloved cat, Indigo.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Little Victories Animal Rescue or Hospice of Huntington.
