Bill Nye is a former Boeing engineer. He studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University. He helped design sundials for NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover project. He’s been a visiting college professor, an executive at the Planetary Society, and has written children’s science books.
And, yes, he is Bill Nye the Science Guy on television.
So it should come to no one’s surprise that Sarah Palin, the former two-year Governor of Alaska, believes she has as much scientific experience as he does.
“Bill Nye is as much a scientist as I am!” Palin told an audience at an event in Washington, D.C.. “He’s a kids’ show actor; he’s not a scientist.”
Oh my.
Palin and other conservatives are all worked up over Nye’s position on climate change and his belief that humans, with all the crap we put into the air, are contributing to changes in the Earth’s climate. Palin says Nye and the other ninety percent of the scientific community are just “alarmists.”
Nye has not responded directly to Palin or her comments. But his fans on social media sure have:
Sarah Palin saying that Bill Nye is as much a scientist as she is, is so incredibly disrespectful when you consider the the comparison.

Sarah Palin, Communications major, says she’s as much of a scientist as Bill Nye, mechanical engineering major.
Gonna disagree on that.
