A trifecta of states — Florida, Ohio and Virginia — are likely to determine which candidate reaches 270 electoral votes this November.
A new Roanoke College poll finds Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump tied at 38 percent among likely voters.
While 11 percent are undecided, another 11 percent make it clear they’ll vote for a third alternative (that could be good news for Libertarians).
A majority of Virginia voters don’t like either candidate.
Only 30 percent have a favorable view of Clinton, 50 percent unfavorable.
It’s even worse for Trump who is favored by just 23 percent, 56 percent unfavorable.
What is key for Clinton is how she dominates Trump on major issues. Voters prefer her on health care, improving race relations, immigration and terrorism. She ties with Trump on the economy.
When it comes to issues of “temperament” and “qualifications” Clinton also leads Trump by a wide margin.
One area where Trump edges Clinton is on “honesty.”
“We have talked about ‘lesser of the evils’ choices for several years, but this race may epitomize that statement, and we’ve barely begun the real nastiness,” said Dr. Harry Wilson, director of the poll.
Virginia ranks number three on the Circus listing of “most important states” this November.
