Donald Trump today claimed that there is a “global conspiracy” against him. But a new Fox News poll points to Trump himself, no one else, for being such a weak candidate that he could cost Republicans control of Congress on election day.
The poll finds that Hillary Clinton has expanded her national lead to 7 points, and over half of voters now say Trump is unqualified to be president.
- Clinton 45%
- Trump 38%
- Johnson 7%
- Stein 3%
“If the Republicans are not at rock-bottom, they can certainly see the bottom from where they are,” said GOP pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts the Fox News poll. “If Trump got 90 percent of self-identified Republicans and nothing else — no Democrats and no independents — he’d be at 32 percent.”
Clinton’s strength comes from:
- Non-whites +62
- Women +22
- Millennials +16
Trump’s strength comes from:
- Whites without a college degree +25
- Whites +14
- Men +5
Since a tape was released last Friday where Trump is heard making vulgar comments about women, he has lost significant ground among:
- Women under 45 -12
- Independents -12
- Voters 65+ -11
- Suburban women -10
- Regular church goers -8
- White women with college degree -7
- GOP women -6
- White college graduates -6
54 percent of voters say Clinton is a role model for their children, only 20 percent say that about Trump.
Perhaps most damaging to Republicans is that 64 percent believe Clinton has the right temperament to serve effectively as Commander in Chief, and 68 percent say she’s qualified. Compare that to Trump where 63 percent think he lacks the temperament to be in the Oval Office and 56 percent say he isn’t qualified. For 49 percent, he is “not at all” qualified.
That could be the number that tells us the story about where election night is headed.
