Is there enough interest in politics in 2018 to start a new election-related website? In the immortal words of Tina Fey: “You betcha!”
Longtime broadcast journalist Jim Heath has premiered JimHeath.TV to showcase what he calls “fact news,” a reference to the term “fake news” that has been promoted by President Trump and other media detractors.
“There is a clear distinction between political reporters working for credentialed journalistic media organizations, and partisans who make things up in the name of their own point of view,” said Heath. “This website will be a place where voters can go to read the latest truth, as opposed to partisan spin.”
The website, which is already over 50,000 views, is a showcase for the top political and campaign stories of the day. Heath said he was inspired by websites like Political Wire that have been promoting journalism and factual news for years.
“The goal is to separate the reality from the garbage,” said Heath. “You can look at Taegan Goddard’s Political Wire as proof that people do care about ‘real’ headlines. Those who visit JimHeath.TV will know that the stories are sourced and credible. There will be nothing ‘fake’ here.”
Heath, who wrote Front Row Seat at the Circus chronicling his coverage of the ’08 and ’12 presidential campaigns, is relying on his nearly 20 years in broadcast journalism to write daily blogs and analysis of what’s happening in politics, combined with links to the top sourced news of the day. It’s a one-stop shop for voters who want a real sense of what’s happening.
“Journalists are not the enemy of the American people, far from it,” said Heath. “Our website will highlight all the good work being done from credible news organizations all around the country. It’s time we start pushing back on this notion that journalists are not doing their jobs.”
