It’s not a script from Breaking Bad. But it could be. A top fundraiser and consultant for Sen. John McCain, Emily Pitha, was taken into custody today by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office after detectives said they found drugs and a meth lab set up in her home.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Doug Matteson said the materials involved in the operation were “very explosive; very deadly.”

A Republican fundraiser can also be a meth distributor. Who knew?

Besides meth, detectives found LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, heroin, marijuana and counterfeit money “all over the house.” Pitha’s boyfriend, who has two children, was also arrested and police say both could also face child endangerment charges.

According to her LinkedIn page, she describes her role as, “political fundraising, assist in event coordinating, data entry, liaison between political donors and the candidates/fundraising team.”

Pitha has also worked in the offices of Republican senators Jeff Flake and Jon Kyl, both of Arizona. Prior to that she spent three years as a teaching assistant in a Christian preschool.

McCain’s camp sent out a statement ignoring Pitha’s role in their campaign but praising law enforcement for the bust.

Arizona’s senior senator, the 2008 GOP presidential nominee, has announced he’s skipping the GOP convention in Cleveland to concentrate on what’s expected to be a tough challenge this fall by Democratic Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick.
