One stubborn contestant on Survivor has many pondering today whether it makes any sense to love eating chicken, while refusing to let chickens be killed.

Wendy Diaz’s Manu Tribe finally won a reward this week that included one rooster and three hens.

After eating rice for weeks her teammates were anxious to enjoy some protein.

Not only could they choose to butcher the chickens at their leisure, but the hens would be a source of eggs.

Wendy, who is neither a vegetarian or vegan, admitted to her tribe that she eats chicken normally, but she dug in and announced she would not be a part of the death of any chickens on their beach.

The super bubbly contestant from Bell, California complained that she didn’t feel right about killing the chickens because the “poor chickens” didn’t sign up for Survivor.

Her unfathomable explanation is that she can eat chickens back home because they’re mass farmed, which means according to her, “they’re dead anyway.”

She was so upset about it that she hid the flint from the tribe so they couldn’t start a fire to roast the chicken.

Then she lied about doing it.

“I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that I really enjoy Wendy,” Survivor host Jeff Probst told Entertainment Weekly.  “She is so unique in so many ways and her unpredictable point of view is really fun to watch. But, if I knew she hid the flint while lecturing about not killing the chickens, I think it would try my patience as a player.”

While most of us would find it unforgivable to deny a good chicken dinner out on a beach when you’re hungry, Diaz does have her supporters.

Former contestant Kimmi Kappenberg, who last tweeted two years ago, took to social media to show her public support to free the chickens:

Diaz was not evicted by her tribe and stands a good chance of going deep in the game, if her chicken shenanigans don’t get her into trouble.

“Edge of Extinction is slowly becoming a society with its own set of issues,” said Probst. “And back in the regular game, the deviousness is already full on. I love the way this group is playing. Very aggressive out of the gate. And they still have no idea that the Edge of Extinction really exists and that it may impact their game.”
