Lucifer star Kevin Alejandro has revealed that the cast found out the news that season five would be the last just hours before the rest of the world did.
Speaking to Tilly Pearce at UK Metro about the season five ending, Alejandro, who plays Detective Dan Espinoza, admitted that he found the moment bittersweet, and that the cast, who have become undeniably close on and off screen, have already got emotional as they think about saying goodbye.
“After the announcement, Me, Lesley-Ann, Lauren German were having dinner and already, just talking about the end, and season five is starting to end, tears are starting to form and it’s like we’re months away from even shooting,” said Alejandro. “We’re like “we just can’t believe it! We just need to embrace it.”
After Netflix resurrected the series after its early cancellation on Fox, Lucifans have been desperate to keep the show alive as long as possible.
So, the last couple weeks have split the Lucifer fandom, with many signing a petition to Netflix to keep the show going.

Alejandro, or Detective Douche as Lucifer calls him, admits the cast went through various emotions when they heard the news.
“The day they announced it to the public, we found out hours before that,” said Alejandro. “At first, you know, it’s kind of bittersweet, because originally we were just waiting to hear if we’d been picked up for another season, and so there’s that. They started with the news of ‘we’re picked up!’ and of course there was happiness, and then there was the bittersweetness of ‘but this is the last one.'”
Alejandro says the cast has quickly come to peace with the decision.
“The longer I let myself think about it, it’s kind of perfect, you know? We get to finish this season the way the writers and the creators want to finish it, and it’s not pulling the rug out from under our feet,” said Alejandro. “They have time to prepare to give the audience the best possible ending they can come up with. It’s a really cool thing.”
“It’s better to quit while we’re ahead and end on a high than to become one of those shows where it’s like ‘that show was cool until blah blah blah’. You know? Have it go too long,” added Alejandro. “Luckily for us, we fucking did it, and nobody can take that experience away from us, and even when they take the show away, the experience will always be part of us.”

That appears to be the same attitude of Lucifer himself, Tom Ellis.
Ellis wrote on Instagram, “I have had the most amazing ride making life long friends and playing a character that I truly love. It has been an utter privilege.”
“Here’s to a rocking season 5 and going out on a high,” Ellis concluded.
On Twitter, Ellis also added, “…all good things must come to an end…always leave them wanting more!”
It’s beautifully overwhelming to know how much love there is for #lucifer out there…thank you to everyone for your congratulations on the announcement of our final season. It’s bittersweet for us too but all good things must come to an end…always leave them wanting more! ❤️?

Lucifer Executive Producer Joe Henderson, the top boss, weighed in making it very clear that S5 will be it.
Replying to fans, Henderson wrote: “Nothing has changed! We are wrapping up all our stories in season 5, our final season.”
Unable to slow down the petition drive, Henderson was again asked by @lucifansgroup1 to clarify whether season five “is the end, and we shouldn’t tweet for S6?”
Henderson responded, “Season 5 is the end.”
Meanwhile, Lucifer is closing in on the record as the most-watched series in history.
Netflix has premiered several hit shows since Lucifer season 4 premiered in May, but the Binge Report shows our favorite devil has staying power.
Lucifer holds the #1 spot on the throne for a sixth week in a row, with 5.06% of binge sessions.
Please dont end it with Season 5, great show it deserves to live on.
If you take Lucifer off I will put a curse on everyone having anything to do with it. I’m 76 yrs. and glad I found a program to enjoy before going to the silver city with Maze to kick ass. So watch out cause Maze will pop out of the background to slice and dice all you all. Don’t even think about it. This is not a joke. Tom Ellis did not go through all the grief and aggravation to go off into the sunset with Chloe my dream girl now that Liz Taylor is gone. Detective Duce will have a full clip ready for you.. I even watched Trixie grow her two front second teeth so she could whistle Merry Christmas
Better the end on their terms than to have an aburt ending. They got a second chance many amazing shows didn’t that should of like #thebrave
This show is awesome please do not end it
I dont get it. The show is awesome..why do all these types of entertaining shows end when the plot can continue to thicken and the fan base is there
I completely agree Marion. It’s like Hollywood thinks they know what we want better than we do. Phenomenal show. Shouldn’t be cancelled at all.
I can’t get enough of Lucifer. This show is 1 of the best I have seen in a very long time. It will be greatly missed once it is cancelled
I would enjoy and love to see the Lucier series go on to the big screen. The audience is there which means it would bring in big money. The fans get what they want and the investor’s get what they want. They are a fool to let the Lucifer end as there is a lot of potential to make big money by going on to the big screen. I love this show as it has a Fantastic Cast.
The later parts of season 2 and season 3 started to suck because of how much they had to drag it out with so many episodes. Season 4 totally redeemed it. Good stories have beginnings and endings. This is not a show that can can go on indefinitely. It will get super boring. Trust that the writers know how much content is really left to write instead of insisting they keep churning out lookalike episodes forever. I hope more shows tell their stories without filler and give way to new shows from now on. They will all tell much better stories that way.
I totally agree with lanthanein, although it leaves a bitter and unpleasant feeling, it’s the right way (for the producers and writers) to go instead of dragging the show…eternally. I’m sure they will make up for this one being the final season by making it the best one!
Joe said season 5 is the end, however he didnt say don’t tweet for S6. I understand they’re grateful for getting an ending and want to go out on a high but that doesn’t mean having a S6 or 7 will effect that. Lucifer’s strong fan base isn’t going to Diminish within one or two more seasons. I also don’t think the show runners are allowed to Petition or that they might be afraid to because they’re still under contract!
Netflix is making a huge mistake!
Ending Lucifer with season 5 is not what the fans or actors/crew deserve! Hopefully the decision makers will open their eyes and give this awesome series more season’s. @netflix is shooting itself in the foot by cancelling/ending this series! I just really don’t understand why they would want to do this. I didn’t expect Lucifer to go on for as many season’s as Supernatural did, but I expected more than just season 4 and 5 when Netflix saved the series. Its far to popular to end with season 5. And I grew tired of all the reality shows, soap opera’s, talk shows and sit-coms a long time ago. Lucifer is like a fresh breath of air. So sad for all of us.
Really sad there will be only 1 more season, I feel it had a fair way to go yet 🙁
